the best (and safest) household cleaners

Household cleaners are in every home and used on everything– countertops, dishes, clothes, sinks, stoves, floors. But do we really know what exactly is in all of those cleaners?  Chances are the ingredients found in some of your household cleaners may actually be more harmful than the dirt and grime you are trying to wash off.  The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a leading environmental organization for independent consumer product testing, just came out with a study ranking the best cleaners in its 2012 Guide to Healthy Cleaning.  This guide helps break down the best (and safest) household cleaners on the market. The good news? GreenCupboards sells many of EWG’s highest ranking cleaners. Take a look:

All Purpose:

EWG warns against the marketing illusion of greenwashing, saying some companies mark their products as “natural” while still containing toxic ingredients. GreenCupboards was founded on anti-greenwashing principles. Every product sold on GreenCupboards has a “what makes it “green”” section to highlight its sustainable qualities.  The EWG study also points out that cleaners, unlike foods, cosmetics and drugs, are not required to list all of the ingredients in their products. This makes it easy for companies that sell cleaning products to greenwash.  To help combat greenwashing at GreenCupboards, we have 24 Eco-Traits to help shoppers determine the greenness of a product for themselves.
